FREE LEARN TO PLAY LACROSSE CLINIC!
October 8, 2008 Free Learn to Play Lacrosse Clinic! Reserve your spot now!!
The Elk Grove Youth Lacrosse Club (EGYLC) will be conducting their next "Learn to Play Lacrosse Clinic" on Sunday October 12th from 2:00pm until 4:00pm. At Joseph Kerr Middle School.
The purpose of these "Learn to Play" clinics is to introduce new and beginning players to the game. The clinics are open to all boys and girls ages 8-17. Areas of concentration, are the basic fundamental skills of throwing, catching, scooping ground-balls, cradling, and shooting. The players will also be taught about the rules and general concepts of team offensive and defensive play. These clinics provide a great introduction to the game, and allow potential players the opportunity to see if they would enjoy playing for one of our teams when the season starts next spring. (Lacrosse season runs from basically February through May.) They also serve to shorten the learning curve for new players, as opposed to joining a team in February and trying to learn the game from scratch at that time.

The clinics are FREE and equipment will be provided.

Our club will also conduct "Skills and Drills" sessions over the next few months for experienced players, but this clinic and other "Learn to Play" clinics will concentrate on introducing the game to new and novice players. Space is limited so please register by Saturday October 11th at 9:00pm if you are planning on attending the clinic.

To reserve a spot or for more info or questions please contact Bill Huss at williamhuss@earthlink.net or (916) 628-7272.

***Please Note: US Lacrosse membership is mandatory to participate in/for any EGYLC activity or team.

    CONGRATULATIONS TO THE PUPS TEAM
September 3, 2008 The Elk Grove Gladiators Pups team wins Silver at the NCJLA Championships! After coming from behind in the Semi-finals against an unbeaten Stuart Hall team to win 11-10. The Gladiators fought hard in the Championship game evening the score at 5-5 after being down by 3 goals in the fourth quarter. However the South Bay Crusaders prevailed scoring the game winning goal in the waning moments of the game. Our club is proud of this Pups team as competing for the Championship had not even crossed the team's mind at the beginning of the season. To put this into proper perspective-two-thirds of the players were new to the game. They finished the regular season at 13-1 scoring 117 goals (tied for 2nd most in the Pups division among 65 teams!), and only letting in 48. This is the first team in the Club's history to win a playoff game, let alone a medal. Congratulations again to a FANTASTIC season!

EGYLC Donates PE Curriculum and Sticks to New "Home Turf"
As part of it's constant mission to "Honor the Game" and grow and develop the sport of Lacrosse in the Elk Grove community. EGYLC is proud to be able to donate a set of 24 STX Ball "Soft Lacrosse" sticks as well as the accompanying US Lacrosse PE Curriculum textbook to Joseph Kerr Middle School. Joseph Kerr will serve as the practice facility as well as Home game sight for Elk Grove Youth Lacrosse for the 2007 season. It is the hope of EGYLC and the staff of Joseph Kerr to teach students about the great game of lacrosse and expose them to the game's rich history and traditions. As well as the FUN and healthful benefits of this great game.

    Lacrosse Positions
Goal: The goalie's responsibility is to protect the goal and stop the opposing team from scoring. A good goalie leads the defense by reading the situation & directing the defense to react. He should have excellent hand/eye coordination & a strong voice. Quickness, agility, confidence & the ability to concentrate are also essential. Each team has one goalie in the goal during play.

Midfield: The midfielder's responsibility is to cover the entire field, playing both offense and defense. The midfielder is a key to the transition game, and is often called upon to clear the ball from defense to offense. A good midfielder demonstrates good stick work including throwing, catching and scooping. Speed and stamina are essential. Each team should have three midfielders on the field.

Defense: The defenseman's responsibility is to defend the goal. The defenseman generally restricts his play to the defensive end of the field. A good defenseman should be able to react quickly in game situations. Agility and aggressiveness are necessary, but great stick work is not essential to be effective. Each team should have three defensemen on the field.

Attack: The attackman's responsibility is to score goals. The attackman generally restricts his play to the offensive end of the field. A good attackman demonstrates excellent stick work with both hands and has quick feet to maneuver around the goal. Each team should have three attackmen on the field during play.
